Welcome to Westbourne Academy
A Message from the Principal
After 14 years service to this school and the community, Mr Edwards has retired. He has led the school through some extra ordinary times, culminating in our conversion to Academy status in February 2013. He has left the school in a strong position, with a talented team of dedicated staff and our sponsor, The Academy Transformation Trust, all working towards our aim of transforming Westbourne into an outstanding school. We wish him a thoroughly enjoyable retirement.
I am delighted and honoured to be the Acting Principal. Myself and my team are 100% committed to providing the highest quality education to our young people. We are raising the standards and expectations of what goes on from the moment the students arrive at school, right through to how they learn when at home. There are challenging times ahead, and last year’s results showed that gaining good grades at GCSE is far more difficult than in the past – but that is a challenge we are morally bound to accept. Our students deserve the right to walk into a future employer’s office, or another educational provider, clutching an excellent collection of qualifications – qualifications that open the door to exciting new futures.
I am proud to lead such a truly comprehensive school. Teaching our young people how to learn to respect those with differences, those with different traditions and backgrounds, those that struggle and those that fly is essential – essential for those young people and our local community.
Our motto is ‘Together we learn to make a difference.’ Without the help and support of our parents we will not meet the challenge I have set out. I am determined to find new ways of working with Westbourne parents and encourage you all to engage with me to work through the issues that we face. Whilst we communicate via websites, social media, texts and letters – nothing beats face to face talking. Please make an appointment and come in to talk to us – we won’t always agree but we will, at the very least, get to know each other better.
Looking forward to working together,
Mr Dave Lee-Allan
